Viking rock arose during the early 1990s, and incorporates elements of punk, rock, and Swedish folk music, with lyrical themes drawn from Norse mythology and Scandinavian history.

Mjölnerella began as a concept in 2017 between Allegra Geller, a student of Swedish music and history at Uppsala University, and Mortuz Denatus of Mist of Misery. They were joined by Viking rock legend Mjölner in 2022.
